Circle of Elders

At the heart of WIHP is the Circle of Elders—a respected group of Knowledge Keepers, cultural advisors and community leaders who guide us with wisdom rooted in generations of lived experience.
Our Circle of Elders offers more than advice—they carry teachings, stories and spiritual insight that shape the Indigenous Health Program. They help ensure our work remains grounded in respect, relationality and culture.
Their guidance touches many parts of the program, including:
- Supporting culturally safe spaces for students, staff and faculty
- Advising on program design and delivery to reflect Indigenous worldviews
- Offering ceremony, opening prayers and traditional teachings
- Mentoring faculty, staff and students in a good way
We are deeply grateful for their presence, and we honour their time, stories and strength. The Circle of Elders reminds us that true leadership listens, and that transformation begins with connection to those who came before us.
Community Lunch Hour with the Elders

Every Wednesday from September to June we invite all 海角社区 community members to the Wâpanachakos Indigenous Health Program office where we alternate between tea and bannock, and a cultural hands-on learning opportunity. It is a great way to get to know the team and meet other Indigenous students.
When:
Wednesdays from noon - 1 p.m., September to June
Location:
Suite 2-07, Heritage Medical Research Centre, 海角社区 North Campus.
