A 2nd year medical student at the 海角社区. He completed his BSc. in Cell Biology at the 海角社区 and graduated with a Master of Science in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University in 2023.
Michael van Manen is the Chair in Health Ethics, the Director of the John Dossetor Health Ethics Centre, and an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the 海角社区, Canada.
Michael has a clinical practice as a physician in neonatal-perinatal medicine with the Stollery Children’s Hospital. His research is primarily concerned with relational ethics, situated within the tradition of phenomenology. He is considered an international expert in qualitative health research. His research projects relate to ethical decision-making, the experiential life of the fetus/newborn, the use of medical technologies in clinical encounters, and patient-family experiences of hospital care.
Vision for Social Accountability
As the Chair in Health Ethics, Michael understands the close relationship of health ethics to social accountability. He recognizes the value and privilege that comes with engaging with individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. And he believes that respect, humility, responsibility, equity, justice, and care express ethical commitments for social accountability.
Hobbies and Interests
In his spare time, Michael enjoys spending time with family.

Paulette Dahlseide is a Registered Dental Hygienist, Assistant Clinical Professor at the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry and Program Lead for the Wâpanachakos Indigenous Health Program in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the 海角社区.
Susan is a radiation therapist and the director of the Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy (BScRT) Program in the Department of Oncology.
Lisa Purdy is an associate professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology. She has held several key leadership roles within FoMD, and is currently the Academic Officer and the Assistant Dean Access Community & Belonging. Her academic work focuses on curriculum development, academic integrity, racism, and virtual simulations in health professions education. She brings a student-centred and equity-informed approach to all aspects of her teaching and leadership and is committed to building inclusive learning environments that support both academic excellence and personal growth.
Sai Vemula
Sai Vemula (they/them) is a third-year medical student, currently immersed in the vibrant community of Amiswaciywaskahikan (Edmonton), and also in Ponoka, AB, as part of a rural longitudinal clerkship program. Sai brings a unique perspective to their academic journey. With a background in neuroscience and biomedical engineering, Sai's recent focus has shifted towards addressing health inequities and understanding the structural and social determinants of health.
Vision for Social Accountability: Passionate about community-based health interventions, Sai is dedicated to integrating lived experiences into health policy, particularly for marginalized and equity-deserving populations. Sai's research experience spans both quantitative and qualitative methods, predominantly in the biomedical sciences. As a medical student, they serve as the Year 3 EDI councillor for the 2026 class and as a co-Chair of the SRPC Student Mentorship Subcommittee.
Interests Outside of Work: Beyond academia, Sai has honed their skills in public speaking, workshop facilitation, teaching, and content development.
Minn-Nyoung Yoon
Dr. Minn N. Yoon is an associate professor at the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry, 海角社区 since 2012, following her PhD from the University of Toronto. Her primary research works with people in the community focusing on promoting inclusive oral care for marginalized and vulnerable populations including those living in long-term care and persons with disabilities.
Vision for Social Accountability
Working closely with Drs. K Dong and K Smith, Minn completed a Social Accountability fellowship through The Network: Towards Unity for Health, in which they were able to take a deeper look into the multifaceted nature of how the Faculty is and further can be socially accountable to the public, the community and the people that we serve.
Hobbies and Interests
Minn is also a mom to two teen girls and a middle-aged mini schnauzer. In her spare time, Minn is a wanna-be pickleball player and coffee enthusiast.
