Winter 2026

STS 200 - Introduction to Studies in Science, Technology and Society
LEC 850: Online Synchronous
LEC A01: TR 11:00 - 12:20

STS 497 - Advanced Special Topics in Science, Technology and Society
Topic: Science Communication
LEC A01: W 11:00 - 13:50

What does it mean to undertake science communication? This upper-level, seminar-style course examines different approaches to science communication through close readings, case studies, and hands-on experimentation. Theoretically, the class asks: How does communicating scientific research position and produce expertise? How do different approaches to science communication shape possibilities for social and political action? How can science communication be accountable to truth(s), ethics, and uncertainty? Practically, the course invites students to get real-world experience with different approaches to actually doing science communication, including working with audio and video formats, community collaboration, storytelling and research-creation.
