Program Overview
The SASI Project is a pilot initiative under the Shastri Indo-Canadian Insitute (SICI)'s Engaging Alberta in India Program (EAI), generously funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Government of Alberta. The EAI Program aims to establish and strengthen potential engagements between Alberta and India through higher education, industry collaboration, and people-to-people partnerships.
The SASI Project redefines internships, offering Alberta students a comprehensive experience that fuels personal, academic, and professional growth.
Shastri Institute helps with:
- Arranging/assisting interns in obtaining appropriate Indian visas
- Securing accommodations
- Connecting students with host Indian supervisors
- Providing orientations, mentoring, etc..

When Can I Go?
Terms Offered: Summer
Program Duration: 6-8 weeks (July 1 to August 24, 2026)
Please note that the first week of the internship is conducted virtually.

Open to: All faculties
Level: Undergraduate, Graduate
Shastri Institute Eligibility Requirements:
- Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Proficiency in the English language is required.
- Students with any previous academic degrees/diplomas from Indian institutions are not eligible.
- Financially challenged and Indigenous students are highly encouraged to apply.

Application Deadlines and Instructions
Deadline: November 25, 2025
Instructions: Please apply via . Your letter of intent should indicate which project(s) you are interested in participating in. Note that you will be required to submit an application to Shastri Institute as well, including an and by November 30, 2025. Once you receive conditional approval from Horizons, you will be provided with follow-up instructions. Interns will be announced by December 8, 2025.
Fees + Costs
- $250 nomination fee
- SASI Grant Value: CAD$ 8,500/grant (12 grants in total)
- Grant Coverage: Covers international round trip air tickets, domestic travel, accommodation, meals, visa, health insurance, stipend, and an honorarium to host faculty.
Students are encouraged to apply for funding even if they do not have a confirmed internship to avoid missing important deadlines.
