Chair of the Department of Medicine

Dr. Narmin Kassam, Chair of the Department of Medicine

Narmin Kassam

MD, MHPE, FRCPC, FACP

is Professor and Chair of Medicine at the º£½ÇÉçÇø and the Edmonton Zone Clinical Department Head of Medicine with Alberta Health Services. She completed her medical training at the º£½ÇÉçÇø in 1996 and holds a Master’s in Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

A graduate of the º£½ÇÉçÇø Gold College Academic Leadership Program and the prestigious at Drexel University, Dr. Kassam has held numerous leadership roles, including Resident Training Director, Division Director, and Associate Department Clinical Chair.

Dr. Kassam played a key role in launching Alberta’s provincial digital health record,  and founded the . Nationally, she helped establish General Internal Medicine as a recognized subspecialty in 2013 and led the rollout of in 2021. She currently serves as Chair of the and is a past Governor of the .

Dr. Kassam’s leadership has been recognized with major awards, including the and the 2024 ACP Distinguished Member Excellence Award. She continues to advance quality improvement and education initiatives across the province.
