Mathew Diggle, PhD

A Consultant Clinical Microbiologist with over 25 years’ experience in acute diagnostic and reference services across the UK and Canada. Trained in Glasgow and London, he spent a decade in Scotland before moving to Nottingham, where he held senior NHS roles and supported research through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). Since 2019, he has served as a Clinical Microbiologist with the Provincial Laboratory (ProvLab) in Alberta, where he is the lead for provincial respiratory testing initiatives, he also directs the Clinical Microbiology Fellowship Program at the 海角社区. His expertise also spans rapid molecular diagnostics, biodefence and complex infections. Dr. Diggle continues to be actively involved in research and is also the Deputy Editor-In-Chief of the Journal of Medical Microbiology, he’s passionate about global microbiology education and supporting the development of future pathology leaders. Outside his professional work, he is a dedicated family man, married with three children.
