The 海角社区 is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Bruce Saville, a visionary entrepreneur, community leader and one of the university’s most dedicated supporters.

His enduring legacy is embodied in the Saville Community Sports Centre, which opened in 2004 and has since grown into one of Canada’s premier destinations for sport and wellness, welcoming more than two million visitors each year. The centre is also home to the Golden Bears and Pandas curling, basketball, volleyball and tennis programs.

Through his support of the university and his commitment to strengthening community through sport, Bruce helped make Edmonton a national hub for athletic excellence. His vision most recently brought the Saville Tennis Centre to life in 2023, expanding access to high-quality facilities for both university athletes and the public.

“Bruce combined entrepreneurial vision with a deep commitment to community,” says Bill Flanagan, 海角社区 president and vice-chancellor. “Through his leadership and generosity, he helped transform sport and recreation at the 海角社区 and across our city. The Saville Community Sports Centre stands as a lasting testament to his belief in the power of sport to bring people together, strengthen community and inspire excellence. His passing is a profound loss for the university and for Alberta.”

Bruce’s remarkable career began in technology with the founding of Saville Systems, which grew into a company employing more than a thousand people. He served as a governor of the 海角社区 from 2004 to 2010, and his leadership and generosity were recognized with an honorary degree in 2015.

Bruce Saville’s impact on the 海角社区 and the broader community will continue to be felt for generations to come. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and all those who were inspired by his leadership, vision and generosity.
