About the presenter:

Yevhen Klopotenko is a Ukrainian chef, restaurateur, and culinary activist. He rose to fame after winning MasterChef Ukraine in 2015 and later studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris.

Klopotenko is best known for modernizing and reviving Ukrainian cuisine. He co-founded the Kyiv restaurant 100 Rokiv Tomu Vpered, opened the bistro Inshi in Lviv, and spearheaded the Cult Food project to reform school meals. He also played a key role in having Ukrainian borscht recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.

During Russia’s full-scale invasion, his restaurants provided free meals to refugees and soldiers, highlighting his belief that food is central to Ukrainian cultural identity and resilience. He has authored several cookbooks, including The Authentic Ukrainian Kitchen (2024), and continues to promote Ukrainian gastronomy worldwide.

About the lecture:
Food isn’t just about eating. It’s about who we are. Borshch, beet kvass, shpundra or teteria — each dish tells more about Ukraine than any textbook. Food is our language, our song, our identity. And as long as we keep it close, we know exactly who we are.
