Uploading Documents

What is the difference between official and unofficial documents?

A document is considered official when it is received electronically or by mail from the issuing institution. For example, transcripts received electronically through MyCreds or ELP test results downloaded from the test centre are considered official. Hard copy transcripts and test scores that come by mail from the issuing institution/organization are also considered official.

Official documents are original or attested true copies in sealed and endorsed envelopes mailed directly from the institution/organization to the 海角社区.

Documents submitted in support of an application become the property of the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies and will not subsequently be released or copied except to other 海角社区 offices.

Unofficial documents are those that the applicant provides to the 海角社区, either in person, by upload within the application or sent from the applicant’s email address.

Do I have to list all the schools and institutions I've attended?

Yes. You must declare all schools and institutions you've attended with the corresponding current transcript including completed and incomplete programs of study. This includes exchange/visiting programs and courses taken for transfer credit.

My degree hasn't been conferred yet because I am still attending but I plan on finishing soon. How should I address this in my application?

Please declare all programs currently in progress by selecting the Degree Status of “in progress” and adding both the start and anticipated end date of the program. Please visit the Document Preparation page for further instructions on document preparation and submission.

When and where do I send my official documents once I have received an Offer of Admission from the 海角社区?

The Offer of Admission letter will provide detailed instructions on when and where to send your official documents to clear admission conditions.

I have two or more degrees from a single post-secondary institution. How do I upload these transcripts?

Please complete separate entries for each degree in the Academic History section. For example, if you completed a bachelor’s and a master’s degree both at the University of Toronto, please add one entry for the bachelor’s degree and another for the master’s degree. After you submit the application, you will see checklist items for both degrees, even if they are from the same institution. Please upload transcripts and degree certificates (if applicable) for both degrees. Your department and/or the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies will notify you if exceptions apply to this process during the Awaiting Materials phase.

I have applied previously and provided documents at that time. Can my old documents be used for my new application?

Applicants who attended international institutions (outside of Canada and the United States) will only need to upload their translations and degree certificates (if applicable for those institutions) the first time that they apply.

Applicants who attended domestic institutions (Canada and the United States) and who have previously submitted an application in Slate do not need to resubmit their documents, provided those documents are less than a year old.

Your department and/or the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies will notify you if exceptions apply to this process during the Awaiting Materials phase.

I am having trouble uploading my documents. What can I do?

Please ensure that your documents are organized based on your checklist. Each checklist item supports one document, such as a complete transcript or a degree certificate. A file that contains both the transcript and the degree certificate will not be accepted. If your transcript is saved in multiple files, it should be combined into one document before you upload it. Please remove security features, such as password protection and encryption, before you upload the documents.

If you’re applying in GSMS, the maximum size for transcripts and marksheets is 10MB, and all other documents are limited to 5MB. Please compress the file size if it exceeds 10MB. GSMS supports the upload of PDFs only.

If you are applying in the Graduate Admissions Portal, files of any type and size are permissible, within reason.
