2025 Korean Speech and K-Pop Singing Contest

Korean Speech Contest
- Application Deadline: October 15 (Wed.), 2025
- Preliminary Round: October 24 (Fri), 5 PM
- Final Round: November 7 (Fri)
- Eligibility:
- Not have a parent/guardian who is a native speaker of Korean (All levels)
- Novice: Studied the Korean language for less than 70 hours or currently taking Korea 101.
- Beginner: Studied the Korean language for less than 210 hours or currently taking Korea 201.
- Intermediate: Studied the Korean language for less than 340 hours or currently taking Korea 301.
- Advanced: Studied the Korean language for more than 340 hours or currently taking Korea 401.
- Procedures: Choose a title of your speech / Write your own speech / Memorize the speech
20 ~ 25 contestants will be pre-selected through the preliminary contest.
- Speech Length:
- Novice/Beginner: 2–3 minutes
- Intermediate: 3–4 minutes
- Advanced: 4–5 minutes
- Judges and Evaluation Criteria:
- Panel of judges: Consul from the Korean Consulate in Vancouver and community leaders from the Edmonton Korean Canadian Associations.
- Speeches will be assessed according to the criteria of content, grammar, organization, presentation and pronunciation.
K-POP Singing Contest
- Application Deadline: October 24 (Fri), 2025
- Eligibility:
- Individual or group (up to 3 members)
- At least one 海角社区 Korean language student or alumnus included
- Performance: Up to 5 minutes (any K-POP song, mix allowed)
- Please note that K-pop songs with more than 15 English words in the lyrics may not be eligible.
- Pre-selection: 10 finalists chosen via audition video
- Singings will be assessed according to the criteria of pronunciation, manner of presentation, overall performance.

- Korean Speech Contest Grand Prize Winner Benefit
Hanyang University (Seoul, Korea), one of Korea’s leading universities, has generously offered our student free tuition and housing for Korean language study. The Grand prize winner may choose one of the following options:
- Regular Program – 10 weeks, 200 hours (Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter term)
- Short-term Program – July start, 4-week or 2-week option
Accommodation: Free shared dormitory (2 students per room), about 15 minutes’ walk from classrooms. The new building includes laundry, cafeteria, and fitness facilities.
Note: Students are responsible for airfare, meals, and local transportation.
