Erica Norton et Madame Monique Cormier, organisatrice du concours.
On Sunday, March 30, in Montreal, Erica Norton, a political science student, brilliantly represented Campus Saint-Jean, the francophone campus of the , and the Western francophonie by winning 3rd prize in the prestigious “Délie ta langue!” eloquence competition, a prize worth $1,500.
This competition brought together 13 Canadian universities for an oratorical joust in French. Each contestant has five minutes to analyze a French expression of their choice and use it to highlight a social issue. Erica chose the expression “faire l'autruche” to denounce violence against women. Listen to her performance here: https://youtu.be/blZw73G-fvw?t=3903.
Congratulations to Erica for this wonderful performance! Congratulations also to Louis Prince and Claudine Emen John for their excellent presentations at the CSJ internal final. Louis explored the challenges of French in a minority context with the expression “donner sa langue au chat”, while Claudine highlighted the difficulties faced by newcomers with the expression “claquer des dents”.
This was the CSJ's first participation in the contest, and the experience was a resounding success. We'll be doing it again next year.
Many thanks to all those who contributed to this wonderful initiative, in particular Thao Tran-
Minh and Bernard Salva, who accompanied our three candidates in their preparation.
